Schedule: Third Sunday in August

For over sixty years‚ an annual gospel singing has been sponsored by the Salvation Army in Fines Creek in northern Haywood County at the Shelton Laurel Mission. Following a morning service in the church building‚ the singing takes place in the surrounding mountainous setting. Typically‚ several hundred people attend this event. Most are from the local community‚ but visitors are welcome. The singing occurs on the third Sunday in August.

Directions: Off of Interstate 40‚ take exit 15. If you are traveling west from the Asheville/Waynesville area‚ you will turn right onto Fines Creek Road. If you are traveling east from the Knoxville area‚ you will turn left onto Fines Creek Road and drive under the interstate. Follow Fines Creek Road .8 miles. Turn left onto Shelton Laurel Road‚ a gravel road. Follow up the hill for a 1/2 mile. At the fork‚ bear left onto Indian Springs Road. Follow Indian Springs Road for another .2 miles. Shelton Laurel Mountain Mission will be on your left at the red Salvation Army sign.
