Schedule: Second Sunday in September

This important annual sing has been held for over 100 years. It is free and open to the public. Visitors need to be aware of the extensive protocol found at shape-note singing events. This particular event is a half-day sing‚ beginning with a huge‚ delicious‚ home-cooked dinner after the morning church service. A great number of tables are set end to end‚ creating nearly 50 to 60 feet of space for the food. The dinner is potluck‚ and visitors should not expect to eat unless they have brought food to contribute to the meal. The singing‚ which begins at 1pm‚ is announced only with the ringing of the church bell. It is recommended that visitors arrive early so that they may meet the regular singers and be seated according to their voice range. Newcomers will not be expected to lead songs unless they indicate to the other singers that they would enjoy doing so.

Directions: The church is located southeast of Canton. From Interstate 40‚ take NC Highway 215 south into Canton. Turn left (east) at US Highways 19‚ 23‚ and 74. The First Union Bank will be on your left. Turn right onto Academy and continue up the hill. The road becomes Dutch Grove Road. Bear left at the cemetery and go about 1 mile. The church will be on the left.
