From nine to eleven on Saturday mornings‚ prior to the live radio broadcast of WPAQ’s Saturday Morning Merry-Go-Round‚ a free old-time and bluegrass show/jam session takes place on the stage of the Downtown Cinema Theater. Surry County Arts Council volunteers sell popcorn‚ candy‚ and soft drinks in the theater lobby to help cover expenses. At the same time the stage show is happening in the theater auditorium‚ an impromptu jam session is usually happening upstairs on the theater’s mezzanine level. Be sure to catch both.

Directions: From Interstate 77 take Exit 100 to Highway 89 East into Mount Airy. Turn LEFT at the traffic light onto Graves Street (at Moody’s Funeral Home). Free parking is available at the Municipal Lot on the right and you can walk to Main Street or for on-street parallel parking on Main Street‚ continue past the lot and turn RIGHT on Franklin Street and RIGHT at the light on Main Street.
